Houston Open: Tiafoe advances to quarter-finals
Frances Tiafoe edged out James Duckworth 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5 on Thursday. He’ll face Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 6 seed, in the next round

American Frances Tiafoe, the No 3 seed, moved into the last eight of the Houston Open by edging out Australian James Duckworth 6-2, 6-7 (4), 7-5 at River Oaks Country Club on Thursday.
Tiafoe, ranked No 21, will play Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 6 seed, next.
Duckworth, ranked No 105, defeated Dutch qualifier Gijs Brouwer (6-3, 6-3) in the previous round of the Houston tournament.
