Houston Open: Kovacevic makes second round

American Aleksandar Kovacevic edged out Australian Thanasi Kokkinakis 7-6 (3), 6-7 (2), 6-4 to advance to the second round of the Houston Open at River Oaks Country Club on Tuesday night.

Kovacevic, ranked No 98, will face the winner of the match between Australian Jordan Thompson, the No 6 seed, and Chinese qualifier Yibing Wu next.
