Houston Open: Giron takes out Shapovalov in round one

American Marcos Giron, the No 7 seed, advanced to the second round of the Houston Open by winning against Canadian wildcard Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 7-5 at River Oaks Country Club on Wednesday night.

Giron, ranked No 51, will face American J.J. Wolf next.
