Hong Kong Open: Shang upsets Martinez to advance to quarters
Shang will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan in the next round
China’s Juncheng Shang beat Spaniard Pedro Martinez, the No 7 seed, 6-3, 6-1 to move into the quarter-finals of the Hong Kong Open at the Victoria Park Tennis Centre on Thursday.
Shang, ranked No 50, will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan next.
Ahead of his win today, the 19-year-old Chinese won against wildcard Chak Lam Coleman Wong (7-6 (3), 6-4).
Martinez, ranked No 43, defeated Italian qualifier Francesco Passaro (6-4, 6-4) earlier in the week.
