Hong Kong Open: Muller beats Munar to reach final
The Frenchman will play the winner of the match between Chinese Juncheng Shang and Japanese wildcard Kei Nishikori for the title
Frenchman Alexandre Muller edged out Spaniard Jaume Munar 4-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4 to advance to the final of the Hong Kong Open at the Victoria Park Tennis Centre on Saturday.
Muller will play the winner of the match between China’s Juncheng Shang and Japanese wildcard Kei Nishikori next. It will mark the second career ATP final for the 67th-ranked Frenchman.
Ahead of his win today, Muller won against Swiss qualifier Marc-Andrea Huesler (2-6, 6-4, 6-3), Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (5-7, 7-6 (6), 7-6 (10)) and No 4 seed Arthur Fils (3-6, 6-3, 6-1).
Munar, ranked No 62, beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (4-6, 6-3, 6-3), Portuguese Nuno Borges, the No 5 seed (6-3, 7-5) and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the second seed (2-6, 7-6 (4), 7-5) in the previous rounds of the event.
