Hong Kong Open: Chinese teen Shang upsets Tiafoe to reach semis

Chinese wildcard Juncheng Shang reached the last four of the Hong Kong Open by winning against American Frances Tiafoe, the No 3 seed, 6-4, 6-4 at the Victoria Park Tennis Stadium in Hong Kong on Friday.
The win makes Shang the first player born in 2005 to qualify for the semi-final of an ATP level event and is also the biggest win of his young career. The 18-year-old has also received a wild card into the Australian Open as the final set of wild cards announced were announced by Tennis Australia.
Shang, ranked No 183 in the world, will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, and Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 8 seed, next.
The left-hander edged out Serb Laslo Djere, the No 7 seed (6-7 (5), 6-3, 7-6 (8)) and Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp (6-7 (5), 7-6 (2), 7-6 (2)) earlier in the week.
In the previous rounds, Tiafoe, ranked No 16 in the world, defeated Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (6-3, 7-6 (4)).
