Holger Rune reunites with childhood coach Lars Christensen
Kenneth Carlsen will remain a part of the Dane’s team as well
Holger Rune is back working with his childhood coach, Lars Christensen, according to a press release by the Dane on Monday.
“I am happy to work with Lars again,” shared Rune, who is competing at the Six Kings Slam in Saudi Arabia this week. “We have known each other for many years and have developed our very own tennis language together. During the past month, I have trained a few times with Lars when I have been in Denmark, and it has had a really good effect on my serve.”
Rune’s coaching situation has been in flux the past two years since parting ways with Christensen initially.
He has had brief stints alongside former Grand Slam champion Boris Becker, ex-Roger Federer coach Severin Luthi and French coach Patrick Mouratoglou, while intermittently reconnecting with Christensen as well. Rune has also been linked with Kenneth Carlsen and Benjamin Ebrahimzadeh recently.
The former will stay on and work alongside Christensen according to Rune.
“I have known Holger since he was a little boy with big dreams,” said Christensen, who is still officially the coach of another Dane, Clara Tauson. “Now I look forward to working with him again and working hard to achieve the ambitious goals we both have on his behalf.
“Everyone knows Holger’s huge potential, and his dedication and passion is something completely unique, which it is a privilege to work with as a coach.”
The immediate goal for Rune and Christensen will be a strong finish to the season, with Rune traditionally thriving in indoor hardcourt conditions and currently sitting No 15 in the Race to Turin.
