Holger Rune is an ambitious young man and, it seems, an impatient one. In a good way.

The Danish teenager burst onto the world scene in 2022, reaching the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros, winning his first Masters 1000 title in Paris and finishing in the world’s top 10.

And now the 19-year-old has enjoyed a taste of the big time, he wants to win big. Having been set a goal of breaking into the world’s top 25 at the beginning of 2021, he exceeded expectations. He’s ready to do so again in 2023, following in the footsteps, perhaps, of fellow teenager Carlos Alcaraz, who won the US Open to become the youngest world No 1 in history.

“I have not made my plans for 2023 yet,” Rune said in an interview with Relevant Tennis. “I will sit with my coach after my holidays and we will go through it. But I know what I want. I want to win slams.

“I won an ATP 250, I reached an ATP 500 final and I won a Masters 1000. It’s time for a slam win.”
