Hangzhou Open: Nakashima books spot in semi-finals
The American will face the winner of the match between Japanese qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama and Croat wildcard Marin Cilic in the last four
American Brandon Nakashima, the No 4 seed, reached the semi-finals of the Hangzhou Open by winning against Australian Rinky Hijikata 7-5, 6-3 at the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center on Sunday.
Nakashima, ranked No 39 in the world, will face the winner of the match between Japanese qualifier Yasutaka Uchiyama and Croatian wildcard Marin Cilic next.
The American beat qualifier Coleman Wong (6-7 (7), 7-6 (4), 6-1) in the previous round of the Hangzhou tournament, saving two match points during that clash.
Nakashima is into his sixth semi-final on the tour (3-2 in previous semi-finals) and his second of the 2024 season.
Earlier in the week, Hijikata, ranked No 81, won against Bosnian Damir Dzumhur (2-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2) and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, the No 7 seed (walkover).
