Hamburg Open: Darderi edges past Shevchenko to move into quarter-finals

Italian Luciano Darderi, the No 7 seed, moved into the last eight of the Hamburg Open by defeating Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center.

Darderi, ranked No 35, will face the winner of the match between Serb Dusan Lajovic and Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 3 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Hamburg tournament, the 22-year-old Italian won against Dominican lucky loser Nick Hardt (6-1, 2-6, 6-0).

Shevchenko, ranked No 56, edged out German wildcard Rudolf Molleker (6-4, 4-6, 6-4) in the previous round of the Hamburg tournament.
