Hamburg Open: Popyrin goes down to Blanchet in opener

French qualifier Ugo Blanchet won against Australian Alexei Popyrin 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 to reach the second round of the Hamburg Open at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center on Monday.

Blanchet, ranked No 161, will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Pedro Martinez and Italian Matteo Arnaldi, the No 6 seed, next.
