Zverev powers past De Jong to ease into second round of Hamburg Open
Alexander Zverev beat Jesper De Jong 6-2, 6-2 in Hamburg. He’ll play Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the next round
Alexander Zverev was too strong for Jesper De Jong, beating the Dutchman 6-2, 6-2 at the Rothenbaum Tennis Center to sail into the second round of the Hamburg Open.
The German was in ominous form in front of his home crowd today, breaking his opponent twice in each set without reply to complete a one-sided victory.
In his first match since surrendering a two-set lead against Taylor Fritz in the fourth round of Wimbledon last week, Zverev showed no signs of the hampered movement he alluded to in the aftermath of that loss.
The German was dominant throughout, with his powerful service game particularly on point to shut out De Jong, who could not muster a single break point opportunity.
Zverev, currently ranked fourth in the world, will face Frenchman Hugo Gaston in the next round.
