Halle Open: Zverev moves into quarter-finals
Alexander Zverev won against Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (5) on Wednesday evening and will face Frenchman Arthur Fils in the next round
German Alexander Zverev, the second seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Halle Open by defeating Italian Lorenzo Sonego 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Wednesday evening.
“Extremely happy with my performance,” Zverev said after the match. “I felt like it was good tennis and I’m happy to be in the quarters.
“I’m enjoying the moments on these beautiful courts, happy to be playing the way I am. Hopefully I can continue building, continue playing better.”
Zverev, ranked No 4, will face Frenchman Arthur Fils next.
Ahead of his victory, the German edged out qualifier Oscar Otte (6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-4).
Sonego, ranked No 57, won against Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (7-6 (6), 7-6 (5)) in the previous round of the Halle tournament.
