Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 8 seed, reached the second round of Halle by beating Italian lucky loser Andrea Vavassori 6-3, 6-4 at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Tuesday.
Bautista Agut, ranked No 23, will face American Brandon Nakashima next.
