Halle: Bautista Agut advances to last four, takes out Medvedev
Roberto Bautista Agut won against Daniil Medvedev 7-5, 7-6 (3) on Friday and will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in the next round
Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, the No 8 seed, defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev, the top seed, 7-5, 7-6 (3) to advance to the last 4 of Halle at the Owl Arena/Gerry-Weber-Stadion on Friday.
The two had met at the same stage last year, with Medvedev coming out on top in straight sets.
Bautista Agut, ranked No 23, will play the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the No 3 seed, and Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor next.
Ahead of his victory, the 35-year-old Spaniard won against Italian lucky loser Andrea Vavassori (6-3, 6-4) and American Brandon Nakashima (7-5, 7-6 (2)).
Medvedev, ranked No 3, won against American qualifier Marcos Giron (6-4, 6-3) and Serb Laslo Djere (6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Halle Open.
