Goran Ivanisevic has one big desire for Djokovic in 2024: “I wish him Olympic gold with all my heart”
Ivanisevic reveals that the world No 1 struggled with motivation at the start of 2024 but believes the Serb will return to his old self
Novak Djokovic struggled with motivation at the start of 2024, but his former coach Goran Ivanisevic believes that the world No 1 will return to his old self.
Speaking to Sport Klub, Ivanisevic, who departed from the Djokovic team last week, had one big desire for Djokovic for the 2024 season.
“I believe that Novak will find motivation, I am sure of it. I wish him Olympic gold with all my heart, even more than the Slams,” he said. “It’s something that he wants, he feels like he owes it to someone, although he doesn’t owe anyone anything… I wish for him to succeed in the Olympics.”
Djokovic won the bronze medal in Beijing 2008 but twice ended up fourth after losing in the semi-finals (London 2012 and Tokyo 2021), while in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, he fell to Juan Martin del Potro in the opening round.
Although Djokovic;s start to the season hasn’t been great, Ivanisevic continues to firmly believe in the Serbian.
“When Novak is the DJ, everybody dances to his tune. The sooner he takes over the DJ’s place, the sooner others will start to dance”.
Last week, Djokovic announced his split with Ivanisevic after almost five years, during which they won nine Grand Slams together, along with breaking numerous records.
