Geneva Open: O’Connell moves into quarter-finals as seventh seed Zapata Miralles retires

Australian Christopher O’Connell advanced to the last eight of the Geneva Open when Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles, the No 7 seed, retired at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives on Wednesday.
O’Connell, ranked No 85, led 6-0, 3-0 when Zapata Miralles, ranked No 37, pulled out at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives.
The Australian will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena and Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the No 4 seed, next.
Ahead of his victory, Christopher O’Connell won against Croat qualifier Nino Serdarusic (7-6 (5), 6-7 (1), 6-1).
The Spaniard beat Ukrainian qualifier Vitaliy Sachko (6-2, 6-4) in the previous round of the Geneva tournament.
