No Djokovic-Murray showdown in Geneva as Brit falls in first round
Murray and Djokovic have not played against each other since 2017
Ever since the draw of the Geneva Open came out, fans were eagerly anticipating a potential second round clash between world No 1 Novak Djokovic and former world No 1 Andy Murray.
The two rivals have played 36 times on tour (Djokovic leads the head-to-head 25-11) but their last encounter was way back in 2017 in Madrid.
Now fans will have to wait some more as the Brit went down in the first round in Geneva to Germany’s Yannick Hanfmann in straight sets on Tuesday.
The match was suspended on Monday evening due to weather conditions with Hanfmann leading 7-5, 4-1 and the German came out today and completed the 7-5, 6-2 win to earn himself a chance to play Djokovic.
For Murray, this was his second early exit on clay (he lost in the second round in Bordeaux last week) after missing most of the season on red dirt due to an ankle injury in Miami.
