Cobolli coasts past Shevchenko in Geneva quarter-finals
Flavio Cobolli made quick work of Alexander Shevchenko in the Geneva quarter-finals on Thursday. Cobolli will go up against either Casper Ruud or Sebastian Baez in the last four.
Flavio Cobolli beat Kazakh Alexander Shevchenko 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Geneva Open at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives on Thursday evening.
Cobolli, ranked No 56, will play the winner of the match between Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed, and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed.
The 22-year-old Italian previously defeated Russian Aslan Karatsev (7-5, 6-1) and American Ben Shelton, the No 4 seed (4-6, 7-6 (1), 6-2).
In the previous rounds of the Geneva tournament, Shevchenko — ranked No 61 — ousted Hungarian Fabian Marozsan, the No 7 seed (6-4, 7-6 (4)) before getting a walkover from Finland’s Emil Ruusuvuori.
