Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the No 5 seed, reached the quarter-finals of the Geneva Open by winning against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-3, 6-0 at Tennis Club de Genève, Parc des Eaux-Vives on Wednesday.

Baez, ranked No 20, will face the winner of the match between Austrian qualifier Sebastian Ofner and Norwegian Casper Ruud, the second seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Argentinian beat Indian Sumit Nagal (7-6 (7), 6-3).

Carballes Baena, ranked No 62, won against German Daniel Altmaier (7-6 (2), 6-4) in the previous round of the Geneva tournament.
