Frustrated Jannik Sinner pulls out of Florence next week as injury-plagued season continues
After battling Covid, blisters, and injuries to his hip and knee, the ankle injury is the latest setback for the 12th-ranked Italian this season
World No 12 Jannik Sinner has pulled out of next week’s ATP 250 event in Florence, Italy due to the ankle injury he sustained in Sofia last week.
In a message posted on social media, Sinner said he has been advised to take some time off to recover and would come back stronger but did not specify when he would return.
“Frustrating to have had to retire last week. I’ve spoken with my doctor and been advised that I need to take some time off to recover. Unfortunately, that means I’ll miss next week’s tournament in Florence,” Sinner said in his message. “Time to rest & come back stronger. Thank you for all the messages.”
Jannik Sinner was trailing Holger Rune 5-7, 6-4, 5-2 the Sofia semi-finals when he badly twisted his ankle in a fall and was forced to retire from the match.
The ankle injury is the latest setback for the hard-hitting Italian, who has had to deal with Covid-19, blisters and injuries to his hip and knee earlier in the season.
After Florence, Sinner’s next scheduled tournament is in Vienna, Austria which begins on October 22nd, followed by the Paris Masters the next week.
