American Wolf beats Ymer in Florence to reach his first ATP Tour final
J.J. Wolf will take on either Felix Auger-Aliassime or Lorenzo Musetti in Sunday’s final
American J.J. Wolf reached his first ever final as beat Swedish qualifier Mikael Ymer 6-4, 6-4 in the Florence Open on Saturday afternoon.
The 23-year=old Wolf, ranked No 75, will play the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the top seed, and Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No 3 seed, for the title.
“I definitely had to keep my nerve and wait for my chance,” Wolf said. “He’s sneaky aggressive and can turn defense into offence in a second. I’m not sure what to expect.”
The American defeated Italian wildcard Francesco Maestrelli (4-6, 6-2, 6-1), No 4 seed Maxime Cressy (6-3, 6-4) and Kazakh Alexander Bublik, the No 7 seed (3-6, 7-5, 6-1) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds, Ymer, ranked No 99, beat Dutch qualifier Tim van Rijthoven (6-1, 6-2), Russian Aslan Karatsev, the No 5 seed (6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-1) and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena (6-4, 6-2).
