Federer to play tennis again in November at a Uniqlo event in Tokyo
The former world No 1 will play alongside wheelchair star Shingo Kunieda on November 19 in Tokyo
Freshly retired from the courts, Roger Federer is already going to have to get his racquets out of the cupboard! The Swiss had announced that he would never be far from tennis and that his fans would have the opportunity to see him again, he didn’t take long to keep his word.
On October 19, his Japanese clothing brand Uniqlo issued a statement announcing the presence of the man with 20 Grand Slam titles at the Uniqlo Life Wear Day, which will take place on 19 November 2022 at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, the venue that usually hosts the ATP 500 tournament in October.
“Uniqlo Life Wear Day Tokyo 2022 with Roger Federer, an event to connect the next generation, will be held at Ariake Coliseum to celebrate the achievements of global brand ambassador Roger Federer, who retired from professional tennis in September this year,” they said.
“Through this event, Uniqlo will promote initiatives to inspire the next generation that will contribute to the sustainable development of society, nurture the dreams of children who will lead the future and achieve a better society.”
Federer to play with Japanese wheelchair star Kunieda
The day’s programme will include a conference with brand ambassador Federer and wheelchair tennis player Shingo Kunieda, who is currently the world’s number two player with 28 Grand Slam singles titles to his name. The two men will then play tennis with children at the Ariake Coliseum.
Federer will then play alone against Shingo Kunieda to conclude the day in style. Japanese fans will therefore have the opportunity to admire the Swiss, who was already present in Tokyo for Life Wear Day in 2019 and who won the ATP tournament in 2006.
