Federer says ‘Rehab is rocking’ in latest social media update
The 40-year-old Swiss legend is preparing for a comeback in late summer/ early autumn
Roger Federer’s rehabilitation from his most recent knee surgery last June is going rather well as the Swiss posted an update on his social media handles on Monday.
The 40-year-old, whose last tournament appearance came at Wimbledon 2021 and ended in a straight-sets quarter-final loss to Hubert Hurkacz, posted pictures from his rehab with the caption “Rehab is rockinggggggg🎸💪🏼”
Federer, who turns 41 years old in August, has said earlier that he is targeting a return to the circuit in the late summer/ early autumn.
As expected, the update from Federer sent his fans online into a tizzy, raising their hopes to see their idol back in action on the tour soon.
Federer is No 43 in the latest world rankings
In the latest ATP rankings, the 20-time Grand Slam champion is ranked 43rd. If he does not play any event through the end of Wimbledon, he will drop all his ranking points and will need to depend on his protected ranking or wild cards to enter into tournaments.
The Swiss has also committed to playing the Laver Cup in September this year. He is expected to play alongside arch-rival and good friend Rafael Nadal for Team Europe in the annual team competition.
Last week, Federer dropped outside the top 40 for the first time since 2000 when he broke into the top 40 for the first time as an 18-year-old.
The Swiss has played only six tournaments since early 2020 (the Australian Open in 2020 and five events in 2021) due to his knee injuries and subsequent surgeries.
Despite his limited playing schedule over the past few years, Federer continues to remain one of the highest earning athletes, earning over $90 million, as per Forbes, with most of that coming from his off-court earnings.
