European Open: Auger-Aliassime survives Fucsovics scare to make quarters

Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime, the No 3 seed, won against Hungarian Marton Fucsovics 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last eight of the European Open at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp on Wednesday evening.

Auger-Aliassime struck almost half of his unforced errors in the opening set, finding himself behind after Fucsovics bagged the first set in a tiebreak. However, the Canadian tighten up his hitting and was able to move through the remaining two sets comfortably to book his place in the quarter-finals at the European Open.

The 24-year-old was particularly impressive on serve in the indoor conditions, landing his first serve 69 percent of the time and winning 77 percent of points when he did so, including 13 aces.

Auger-Aliassime, ranked No 21, will face Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut next.

Fucsovics, ranked No 93, defeated Belgian wildcard Raphael Collignon (6-2, 6-0) in the previous round of the Antwerp Open.
