Chilean Cristian Garin edged out Frenchman Arthur Fils, the No 5 seed, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 to advance to the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open at Clube de Ténis do Estoril on Thursday.
Garin, ranked No 112, will play Portuguese Nuno Borges next.
In the previous round of the Estoril tournament, the Chilean beat Austrian Jurij Rodionov (7-6 (3), 7-5).
Fils, ranked No 37, won against Portuguese wildcard João Sousa (7-5, 6-4) in the first round of the Estoril tournament.
