Estoril Open: Fucsovics saves MPs against Monfils to make quarter-finals

Hungarian Marton Fucsovics moved into the quarter-finals of the Estoril Open by edging out Gael Monfils, the No 7 seed, 1-6, 6-1, 7-5 at Clube de Ténis do Estoril on Thursday evening.

Fucsovics did a brilliant job to get himself back into the match after being thoroughly outplayed by Monfils in the opening set, which the Frenchman won 6-1. With some brilliant touch on the drop shot, Fucsovics powered his way back into contention, even seeing off three match points in the third set en route to his fourth-ever clay quarter-final on the ATP Tour.

Fucsovics, ranked No 85, will play Norwegian Casper Ruud, the top seed, next.

Ahead of his victory, the Hungarian defeated Argentinian Pedro Cachin (7-5, 6-2).

Monfils, ranked No 45, won against Portuguese wildcard Henrique Rocha (7-5, 7-5) in the previous round of the Estoril tournament.
