Italian Flavio Cobolli advanced to the second round of the Eastbourne Open by winning against Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech 6-4, 7-5 at the Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Cobolli, ranked No 49, will play lucky loser Giles Hussey next.
