Dutch Open: Medvedev beats Simon to advance to quarters

Top seed Daniil Medvedev, of Russia, advanced to the quarter-finals of the Dutch Open after scoring a straight sets win over French qualifier Gilles Simon at the Autotron Rosmalen on Thursday.
Medvedev, who will become world No 1 next week, won 7-5, 6-4 in one hour and 53 minutes in his first grass court match of the season.
The Russian will next meet Ilya Ivashka, of Belarus, in the quarter-finals. Both players will not be able to compete at Wimbledon due to the All England Club’s decision to ban Russian and Belarusian players this year.
