Russian Daniil Medvedev, the No 3 seed, moved into the final of the Dubai Open by winning against Serb Novak Djokovic, the top seed, 6-4, 6-4 at the Aviation Club Tennis Centre on Friday evening.
Medvedev, ranked No 7, will play Russian Andrey Rublev, the second seed, next.
The Russian beat Italian lucky loser Matteo Arnaldi (6-4, 6-2), Kazakh Alexander Bublik (6-4, 6-2) and Croat Borna Coric, the No 8 seed (6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
In the previous rounds of the Dubai tournament, Djokovic, ranked No 1, defeated Czech qualifier Tomas Machac (6-3, 3-6, 7-6 (1)), Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor (6-2, 6-3) and Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 5 seed (6-3, 7-5).
