Second seed De Minaur knocked out by Cilic in Dubai

In-form Australian Alex de Minaur suffered a surprise defeat in the first round of the Dubai Open on Tuesday as he was beaten 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 by veteran Marin Cilic of Croatia.

The second seed reached the final in Rotterdam earlier this month and made the quarters at the Australian Open but was outgunned by the former US Open champion, now ranked 187, who will play another Australian, Alexei Popyrin, next.
