Draper pulls out of United Cup 2025 due to hip injury
The 22-year-old won’t represent Britain at the mixed-team event and has also announced his withdrawal from Davis Cup duty against Japan in 2025
World No 15 Jack Draper has pulled out of the 2025 United Cup due to a hip injury. He was meant to accompany fellow Brits, including Katie Boulter, to the mixed-team event scheduled to run from December 27, 2024, to January 5, 2025, in the Australian cities of Perth and Sydney.
“As I work to get on top of my hip injury and get match fit, I have unfortunately been advised not to play in the United Cup,” Draper announced on social media. “While we are positive about competing at the Aus Open this year, I know I won’t be able to jump straight back into a packed schedule as I manage and strengthen my hip… gutted as I was really looking forward to play in the United Cup for the first time.”
The 22-year-old also publicised his withdrawal from Davis Cup duty against Japan on January 31-February 1.
“Together with Leon [Smith; Britain’s Captain], we have also made the difficult decision for me to sit out of the upcoming Davis Cup match in Japan in order to give me the opportunity post Aus Open to complete the rehab and strengthening of my hip.”
Britain’s 2025 United Cup campaign will start against Argentina on December 30 and Billy Harris will fill in for Draper at the tournament.
