Tennis players will again be well-represented at the Laureus World Sports Awards in April, with Novak Djokovic, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Marketa Vondrousova and Diede de Groot all included in the shortlist for prizes.
Men’s No 1 Djokovic, a four-time winner of the sportsman of the year award, is again nominated for the top prize, having won three of the four Grand Slams in 2023 and finished on top of the rankings.
Women’s No 1 Swiatek is nominated for a second successive year after winning her fourth Grand Slam title in 2023 and finished the year on top for the second year in a row.
Gauff, Vondrousova also included
Coco Gauff is included in the list for world breakthrough of the year (won by Carlos Alcaraz and Emma Raducanu in the past two years) after winning her first slam title at the US Open, while Marketa Vondrousova is in the running for comeback of the year after winning Wimbledon for her first slam title.
And Dutchwoman Diede de Groot, a legend of disability sport, is in the hunt for the sportsperson of the year with a disability, having again dominated the sport in 2023, winning all four slam titles.
