Djokovic announces next tournament will be Indian Wells
Djokovic will skip Dubai and play Indian Wells for the first time in five years
Novak Djokovic has announced that his next tournament will be the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells. The ATP Masters 1000 event will be played from March 6th to 17th at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
Djokovic, who lost to Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semi-finals in Melbourne this January, has not played at the BNP Paribas Open since 2019. The Serbian has won the event five times previously, prevailing in 2008, 2011, 2014, 2015 and 2016.
His last three appearances in Indian Wells have not been so fruitful, however, with a round of 16 loss to Nick Kyrgios in 2017, a first round exit at the hands of Taro Daniel in 2018, and a round of 32 loss thanks to Philipp Kohlscreiber in 2019.
The announcement also means that Djokovic will not play the Dubai Tennis Championships in February, an ATP 500 event he has won on five occasions previously and historically includes in his schedule.
