Delray Beach Open: Arnaldi stops Nakashima, makes semi-finals

Italian Matteo Arnaldi, the No 4 seed, advanced to the semi-finals of the Delray Beach Open by winning against American Brandon Nakashima, the No 6 seed, 7-6 (2), 6-4 at the Delray Beach Stadium and Tennis Center on Friday night.

The Italian has now taken out Americans on back-to-back nights – he defeated 19-year-old Learner Tien in three sets in the round of 16.

Arnaldi, ranked No 38, will face the winner of the match between American Taylor Fritz, the top seed, and Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, the No 8 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Delray Beach tournament, the Italian edged out American wildcard Learner Tien (7-6 (4), 4-6, 7-6 (1)).

Nakashima, ranked No 43, beat Japanese qualifier James Kent Trotter (7-6 (2), 6-1) and wildcard Reilly Opelka (3-6, 7-5, 6-2) in the previous rounds of the Delray Beach tournament.
