Defending champion Novak Djokovic withdraws from Cincinnati Open
The gold medallist will not play any hard court tournament before the US Open
Fresh off his gold medal at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, Novak Djokovic has decided to withdraw from the Cincinnati Open, ahead of the last major of the year at the US Open. Last year, Djokovic won Cincinnati for the third time in his glittering career, capping it off with a sensational three-set win over Carlos Alcaraz in a nearly four-hour match, 7-6 in the third set.
The withdrawal means that the Serb will lose 1000 ranking points, but is guaranteed to remain inside the top four for the US Open main draw. Last year, Djokovic won a record-extending 24th singles major in New York, and it should not come as a surprise that, at this stage of his career, he further slims down his calendar.
