De Minaur breezes past Goffin to make Rotterdam quarter-finals
Alex De Minaur defeated David Goffin 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday evening. He’ll play the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and Russian Andrey Rublev, the second seed, in the next round
Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 5 seed, moved into the quarter-finals of the Rotterdam Open by winning against Belgian qualifier David Goffin 6-3, 6-1 at the Rotterdam Ahoy on Wednesday evening.
Despite the score line, it was a topsy turvy affair for de Minaur against the former world No 7, with the Australian twice dropping his serve in the match. However, his six breaks of Goffin’s serve ensured that it was still a straight forward victory for the 24-year-old.
De Minaur, ranked No 11, will face the winner of the match between Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassime and Russian Andrey Rublev, the second seed, next.
The Australian beat American Sebastian Korda (6-4, 6-3) in the previous round of the Rotterdam tournament. In the first round of the Rotterdam tournament, Goffin, ranked No 133, defeated Croat wildcard Dino Prizmic (6-4, 6-7 (12), 6-1).
