De Minaur bagels Hurkacz to continue impressive Indian Wells

Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 9 seed, defeated Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 21 seed, 6-4, 6-0 to move into the last 16 of the Indian Wells Masters in California on Monday.

It was a brilliant performance from the world No 10 who covered the court superbly to force errors from Hurkacz over the course of the one-hour, 13-minute clash.

The Australian – not typically known for his serving prowess – was strong behind his serve on Monday, winning 80 percent of first serve points and facing just one break point.

Hurkacz, on the other hand, was uncharacteristically poor, winning just 56 percent of his first serves and dropping serve on four occasions.

The victory is de Minaur’s 15th of the season so far, and sees him through to the Indian Wells round of 16 for the fourth time. He has never advanced further in previous years, however.

De Minaur, ranked No 10, will play Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, the No 25 seed, next.

The Australian won against Belgian David Goffin (6-2, 6-2) ahead of his victory.

In the previous round of the Indian Wells Tennis Masters, Hurkacz, ranked No 22, beat French qualifier Hugo Gaston (7-5, 6-3).
