Darderi upsets Baez to reach Cordoba Open final
Luciano Darderi has advanced to his first ATP final after upsetting Sebastian Baez 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 on Saturday. Darderi will go up against Facundo Bagnis for the title.
Italian qualifier Luciano Darderi reached the final of the Cordoba Open by beating Argentinian Sebastian Baez, the second seed, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes on Saturday night.
Darderi, ranked No 136, will face qualifier Facundo Bagnis next.
Ahead of his victory, the 21-year-old Italian won against Chilean Tomas Barrios Vera (4-6, 6-1, 6-2), Austrian Sebastian Ofner, the No 4 seed (6-0, 6-3) and German Yannick Hanfmann, the No 7 seed (7-6 (2), 6-1).
Baez, ranked No 26, edged out Hugo Dellien (4-6, 6-3, 6-4) and defeated Facundo Diaz Acosta (6-3, 6-1) in the previous rounds of the Cordoba tournament.
