Dallas Open: Shapovalov upsets top seed Fritz to reach quarter-finals

Canadian Denis Shapovalov moved into the last eight of the ATP Dallas Open by edging out American Taylor Fritz, the top seed, 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2) at the Ford Center at The Star on Thursday.

Shapovalov, ranked No 54, will play No 6 seed Tomas Machac next for a spot in the semi-finals.

The Canadian won against Serb Miomir Kecmanovic (6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3) in the previous round of the tournament.

Earlier in the week, Fritz, ranked No 4, beat Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech (6-4, 6-2).
