Croatia Open: Zeppieri reaches last 4
Giulio Zeppieri beat Bernabe Zapata Miralles 7-5, 6-4 on Friday evening and will play the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Argentinian Facundo Bagnis in the next round
Italian qualifier Giulio Zeppieri won against Spaniard Bernabe Zapata Miralles 7-5, 6-4 to advance to the semi-finals of the Croatia Open at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Friday evening.
Zeppieri, ranked No 168, will face the winner of the match between Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz, the top seed, and Argentinian Facundo Bagnis next.
In the previous rounds of the Umag, the 20-year-old Italian edged out Argentinian Pedro Cachin (3-6, 6-1, 6-4) and beat Colombian Daniel Elahi Galan (6-4, 3-6, 6-1).
Zapata Miralles, ranked No 82, benefited from the abandonment of Croat wildcard Dino Prizmic (6-4, 3-0) and won against Dane Holger Rune, the No 3 seed (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) earlier in the tournament.
