Croatia Open: Three in a row for Wawrinka as veteran books spot in semi-finals

Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the No 6 seed, won against Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the semi-finals of the Croatia Open at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Friday evening.
Wawrinka, ranked No 72, will play Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the second seed, next. It will be a first semi-final of the season for both men, with Sonego defeating Jaume Munar and Marco Cecchinato in his opening two matches.
Ahead of his victory, the 38-year-old Swiss veteran defeated Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic (6-3, 6-2) and Argentinian Federico Coria (7-5, 6-1). Carballes Baena, ranked No 59, had won against Japanese Taro Daniel (6-3, 6-1) in the previous round of the Umag tournament.
