Croatia Open: Second seed Sonego does it tough against Munar to make first semi-final of 2023
Lorenzo Sonego defeated Jaume Munar 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 on Friday evening. He’ll play the winner of the match between Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the No 6 seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 4 seed, in the next round
Italian Lorenzo Sonego, the second seed, moved into the last 4 of the Croatia Open by winning against Spaniard Jaume Munar 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Friday evening.
Sonego, ranked No 43, will face the winner of the match between Swiss Stan Wawrinka, the No 6 seed, and Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena, the No 4 seed, next.
In the previous round of the Umag tournament, the Italian defeated Marco Cecchinato (6-1, 7-6 (7)).
Munar, ranked No 104, won against No 8 seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas (6-3, 3-6, 6-3) and Hungarian Fabian Marozsan (6-4, 6-3) in the previous rounds of the Umag tournament.
For Sonego, this is the Italian’s first semi-final of the 2023 season, having come into the Croatia Open off the back of four consecutive losses.
