Brazilian Thiago Monteiro moved into the second round of the Croatia Open by edging out No 7 seed Tomas Machac 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 at the ITC Stella Maris in Umag on Monday afternoon.
Monteiro, ranked No 79, will face Hungarian Fabian Marozsan next.
