Mikael Ymer stops Andy Murray at the first hurdle in Washington, D.C.
Mikael Ymer won against Andy Murray 7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-1 on Monday evening.
It was not meant to be for Andy Murray at the Citi Open in 2022. The Scot struggled in the brutal heat as Swede Mikael Ymer moved into the second round of the Citi Open by winning against the world No 50, 7-6 (8), 4-6, 6-1 at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Monday evening.
Murray came up short in a grueling 80-minute opening set against the world No 115, one in which Murray earned four set points.
Though he looked out of sorts in the heat, Murray managed to rally from 3-1 down in the middle set, winning five of the final six games to force a decider.
But the 35-year-old had very little left in set three – he dropped the first four games and never could manage to close the gap against the 23-year-old.
