Citi Open: Auger-Aliassime already out, beaten by Watanuki
Yosuke Watanuki defeated Felix Auger-Aliassime (7-6 (10), 7-6 (3)) on Wednesday.
Felix Auger-Aliassime‘s run in Washington didn’t last long, as the Canadien lost in his first match against Japanese Yosuke Watanuki. The third seed didn’t find a way through and so was beaten in two tight sets (7-6 (10), 7-6 (3)) at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Wednesday.
Watanuki, ranked No 99, will play Frenchman Ugo Humbert, the No 13 seed, next. The Japanese benefited from the retirement of Chinese Yibing Wu (1-4) in the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament. It was FAA’s first tournament since losing in the first round of Wimbledon where he admitted he was still struggling with a knee injury.
