Citi Open: Thompson beats comeback-bound Anderson to reach second round
The Australian will face No 7 seed Adrian Mannarino in the next round
Australian Jordan Thompson won against South African wildcard Kevin Anderson 6-4, 6-7 (1), 6-1 to move into the second round of the Citi Open at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Tuesday.
Anderson, a former world No 5 and to-time Grand Slam finalist, is playing only his second tournament into his comeback after announcing his retirement in 2022.
Thompson, ranked No 71 in the world, will face No 7 seed Adrian Mannarino next.
