Citi Open: Shelton advances to last 16

American Ben Shelton, the second seed, beat qualifier Radu Albot 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to advance to the last 16 of the Citi Open at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington on Thursday night.

Shelton, ranked No 14, will face American Brandon Nakashima, the No 13 seed, next.

In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, Albot, ranked No 152, won against Argentinian Facundo Diaz Acosta (7-6 (5), 6-3).
