Citi Open: Rinderknech into last 16 as Shang retires with injury
Arthur Rinderknech benefited from Juncheng Shang’s retirement and will play either Andrey Rublev or Luca Van Assche in the next round
Frenchman Arthur Rinderknech, the No 16 seed, reached the last 16 of the Citi Open when Chinese Juncheng Shang retired at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
Rinderknech, ranked No 68, led 2-3 when Shang, ranked No 73, pulled out on Wednesday evening at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Washington.
The Frenchman will face the winner of the match between Russian Andrey Rublev, the top seed, and Frenchman Luca Van Assche next.
In the previous round of the Washington D.C. tournament, the 19-year-old Chinese won against Swede qualifier Elias Ymer (6-4, 6-3).
