Citi Open: De Minaur out, Nishioka saves match point and moves into last 16
Yoshihito Nishioka defeated Alex De Minaur 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 on Wednesday and will face Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 7 seed, in the next round
Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka advanced to the last 16 of the Citi Open by beating Australian Alex De Minaur, the No 11 seed, 3-6, 7-6 (6), 6-2 at Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington on Wednesday.
Nishioka, ranked No 96, will play Russian Karen Khachanov, the No 7 seed, next.
The Japanese player saved a match point when the score was 6-5 for De Minaur in the second set tiebreak.
In the previous round of the Citi Open, Washington D.C., Nishioka won against American Jenson Brooksby (6-4, 6-3). With this win, he has now eliminated the two finalists of the ATP 250 event in Atlanta last week as De Minaur had won the Atlanta Open on Sunday over Brooksby
